Coliseum Sports and Entertainment: Race Rules and Regulations
Welcome to Coliseum Sports and Entertainment! To ensure a safe and fair race for all participants, please adhere to the following rules:
- Waiver: Racers must sign a waiver provided by Coliseum Sports and Entertainment prior to commencing the race.
- Participant Status: You are not considered a participant without a signed waiver. This includes volunteers
- Medical Coverage: Racers are responsible for their own medical coverage and all costs incurred by any form of treatment or hospitalization if they are injured during the race.
- Race Start Time: The race officially begins at 07:00hrs on race day.
- Race Time Limits:
- All Soloists have a maximum of 14 hours to complete the race.
- All teams have 14 hours to complete the race.
- Cut-off Times:
- Leg 1 Start: 7:00am
- Leg 1 Cutoff: 13:00
- Leg 1 Total: 6 hours
- Leg 2 Latest Start: 13:00
- Leg 2 Aid Station Arrival: 16:30
- Leg 2 Cutoff: 18:00
- Leg 2 Total: 5 Hours
- Leg 3 Latest Start: 18:00
- Leg 3 Cutoff: 20:00
- Marathon Start: 0700
- Marathon Finish: 21:00
- Total Possible Race Time: 14 hours
- Cutoff times are the same for Teams, Soloists and Soloists completing Legs 1 and 2 only.
- Category and Distance Changes: Competitors cannot change categories or distances one month prior to race (August 7, 2024).
- Allowed Means of Travel: The only means of travel allowed for racers on the course is self-powered on foot (running, walking, crawling,). Using any other means of travel will result in disqualification.
- Pacers: Pacers are not allowed. Registered runners can run together on their specific leg of the race, but cannot pace others.
- Timing Chip: The timing chip is affixed to your race bib which is collected the night before the race.
- Race Numbers: Race numbers must be visible and worn on the front of your body.
- Required Items: Racers must have their assigned race number (w/ affixed timing chip) on their registered person at all times during the race.
- Check-in: The race has two automatic check-in points. Racers are required to "sound-out" their bib number upon the traverse of a Checkpoint of Aid Station
- One: main race gate.
- Two: Aid Station 2 (ascent of Leg 2).
- Racers must cross the timing pad at the main race gate and Aid Station 2.
- Callout your number to CP attendees
- Course Adherence: The course is marked and runners must adhere to the designated route. Deviating or taking shortcuts will result in disqualification.
- Roadway Rules: During the roadway sections, racers must not run on the pavement. Stay in the ditch, following the quad track. Crossing the highway is not permitted and will result in an immediate DQ. Racers will need to go under a bridge shortly after starting Leg 1 – this will be marshalled to ensure racer safety.
- Parking Rules: Absolutely no parking on the highway. Vehicles will be towed and/or fined by RCMP. Race Parking Pass is required for entry to transition areas.
- Acts of Nature: No time credit will be given for any act of nature or uncontrollable event that inhibits progress on the course. This includes but is not limited to: snow, rain, hail, winds, smoke. Lightning may be reason for delay and will be confirmed on race day.
- Assistance: Racers are allowed assistance only at designated Transition Areas. Accepting assistance outside a TA from anyone besides a registered racer or medic will result in disqualification.
- Gear Caching: Racers are not allowed to cache food or gear along the course except at designated Transition Areas.
- Littering: Littering on the course is unacceptable and will result in immediate disqualification.
- Headphones: Headphones must be removed in a Checkpoint or Transition Area. If used on course, only one earbud should be worn at an acceptable volume.
- Drug Use: Any racer found using or supplying performance-enhancing drugs to other racers will be disqualified and permanently barred from all Coliseum Sports and Entertainment races.
- Drop-Out Policy: Any competitor that drops out of the race must notify the nearest race marshal or director. Not doing so will result in costly search expenses.
- Age Limits:
- There is no specified age limit for runners. Parents and guardians of minors must sign a waiver in person at racer check-in - no exceptions.
- For competitors under 18, we must receive consent by way of a waiver signed by the competitor's parent or guardian, along with two pieces of valid government identification
- Emergency Evacuation: The cost of emergency evacuation is the responsibility of the individual in need of assistance.
- Medical Removal: Medical staff and/or Race Directors may remove any racer from the race course if they feel it is unsafe to proceed.
- Wildlife Encounters: Under no circumstances are racers to bait, feed, entice or attract wildlife. It is expected that racers are familiar with their surroundings and understand the risks that wildlife pose to their personal safety while on the course. Deterrents and familiarity of their applications and safe-use are recommended
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification.
- Dispute Resolution: Disputes must be submitted to the Race Director, in writing, within 30 minutes of the end of the race for consideration.
- Course Modifications: The Race Directors and Black Lung Team reserve the right to modify the race, or race legs prior to Race-Start and will do so based on unexpected events, severe weather conditions or for any reason that may compromise racer or volunteer safety.
The Race Directors will determine if there has been a violation of these rules and will be the final authority in assigning penalties.
