General Expectations 

Please review the volunteer positions below before signing up. Each role has different shift times and responsibilities. 

All volunteers should: 

  • Arrive on time for their scheduled shift. 
  • Dress appropriately for all weather conditions (rain or shine). 
  • Bring any personal items needed to stay comfortable throughout the da

Please review the volunteer positions below before signing up. Each role has different shift times and responsibilities. 

All volunteers should: 

  • Arrive on time for their scheduled shift. 
  • Dress appropriately for all weather conditions (rain or shine). 
  • Bring any personal items needed to stay comfortable throughout the day, including: 
  • Water bottle 
  • Food and snacks 
  • Weather-appropriate clothing 
  • Sunscreen, hat, or rain gear as needed 
  • Be prepared to assist with basic setup and teardown tasks if required. 
  • Provide positive encouragement and support to participants and fellow volunteers. 
  • Help create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable event atmosphere. 
  • Communicate any concerns, incidents, or emergencies to event staff promptly. 


What We Provide 

At volunteer stations, we provide: 

  • Chairs 
  • Tents/shelter 
  • Radios for communication 
  • Station-specific supplies and materials 
  • Volunteer orientation and support from event staff

Registration Check-In 

  • Verify participant identity using government-issued photo ID. 
  • Confirm registration details for solo or relay participants into the event. 
  • Distribute race packages, bibs, shirts, and participant bags. 
  • Ensure participant information and waivers are completed as required. 
  • Track and report missing or unclaimed race mater

  • Track and report missing or unclaimed race materials. 


Merchandise Tent 

  • Assist customers with purchases and product inquiries. 
  • Process sales using the Square point-of-sale system (training provided). 
  • Organize, stock, and display merchandise throughout the event. 
  • Assist customers with sizing and product selection. 
  • Assist with Merchandise setup and end-of-day cleanup.  
  • Communicate inventory, sales, or customer concerns to event staff. 


Checkpoint Volunteer 

  • Be Prepared to travel to your designated checkpoint along the course. 
  • Record participant numbers, times, or attendance information. 
  • Provide directions and event information to participants and guests. 
  • Monitor the checkpoint area for safety concerns. 
  • Report issues, participant concerns, or emergencies to event staff. 
  • Help maintain an organized and efficient checkpoint operation. 


Aid Station Volunteer 

  • Be Prepared to travel to Aid station location.  
  • Set up and maintain the aid station. 
  • Provide water, refreshments, and approved supplies to participants. 
  • Record participant numbers, times, or attendance information 
  • Encourage and support participants as they pass through. 
  • Monitor supply levels and request restocking when needed. 
  • Keep the station clean, organized, and hazard-free. 
  • Assist participants requiring basic support and notify medical personnel if necessary. 
  • Help maintain a safe and efficient flow of participants. 


Sweeper 

  • Follow the final participants along an assigned course leg. 
  • Ensure all participants safely complete or exit the course. 
  • Assist participants who require support or direction. 
  • Monitor for safety concerns and report issues to event staff. 
  • Remove course markings, flags, signs, and other event materials as directed. 
  • Confirm the course is clear before leaving the assigned area. 
  • Communicate participant status and course conditions to event staff. 
  • Help maintain a safe and positive participant experience. 
  • Be prepared to cover the full distance of the assigned course leg. 
  • Volunteers should be physically capable of completing their assigned distance while performing sweeper duties. 


Road Crossing Volunteer 

  • Be prepared to travel to road crossing station. 
  • Monitor an assigned road crossing location. 
  • Direct runners safely along the course. 
  • Alert participants to traffic and potential hazards. 
  • Help maintain a safe and organized crossing area. 
  • Report incidents, safety concerns, or emergencies promptly. 
  • Ensure the route remains clear and accessible. 


Transition Station Volunteer 

  • Refill electrolyte beverages. 
  • Restock snacks and supplies. 
  • Distribute refreshments and snacks to runners. 
  • Keep the station organized and clean. 
  • Assist participants requiring basic support and notify medical personnel if necessary. 


Beer Gardens Server 

  • Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with event policies and liquor regulations. Pro-serve is required. 
  • Verify identification and ensure guests are of legal drinking age. 
  • Monitor alcohol service and promote responsible consumption. 
  • Process transactions using the Square point-of-sale system (training provided). 
  • Keep the beer gardens area clean, organized, and well-stocked. 
  • Monitor the area for safety concerns and report issues to event staff. 
  • Assist with setup, restocking, and cleanup. 


Hall Clean Up (Sunday) 

  • Help Organize and label Black Lung Ultra material back into bins 
  • Empty garbage, Sweep and Mop floors 
  • Clean Bathrooms and Kitchen 
  • Clean Hall grounds 
  • Assist with taking down tents, banners, and signs
